What is so preposterous is that mainstream media has willingly transformed itself into the equivalent of the state-controlled media of dictatorships like those of Stalin and Hussein. They suppress the news that is unfavorable to their political allegiances. In the instance of Rathergate, 60 Minutes is stonewalling investigation—not merely refusing to answer questions, but absurdly claiming that all such questions have been answered:
Rather: The “60 Minutes” report was based NOT solely on the recovered documents .. but on a preponderance of evidence .. including documents that were provided by un-impeachable sources .. and interviews with former officials of the Texas National Guard. If any definitive evidence to the contrary of our story is found, we will report it.
So far, there is none.
“So far, there is none,” said Rather, blithely ignoring the physical impossibility that the memos could have been produced in the year they are dated.
This statement from CBS is revealing:
In a statement, CBS News said it stands by its story.
“This report was not based solely on recovered documents, but rather on a preponderance of evidence, including documents that were provided by unimpeachable sources, interviews with former Texas National Guard officials and individuals who worked closely back in the early 1970s with Colonel Jerry Killian and were well acquainted with his procedures, his character and his thinking,” the statement read.
Notice that both CBS and Rather emphasize that the story is not based solely on the documents. In other words, they’re saying that even if the documents are questioned, they still stand by the story.
That’s not good enough for a company that tried to sway a Presidential election in wartime with obviously forged papers.
How did our own media willingly transform itself from what it once was, to what it has currently become? Over decades the media built tremendous goodwill with an honorable tradition of serving the public with true reporting that helped us all make this country great. And somehow, mainstream media has willingly—without coercion from any dictator—become an instrument for the suppression of the truth.
Mainstream media is no longer reporting—it’s an experiment in mind control.
