From Victor Davis Hanson:
THE KERRY NON-ALTERNATIVE
Meanwhile, Senator Kerry offers neither a plan to stay nor one to leave Iraq, only something “secret.” He thinks a country that defeated Japan, Italy, and Germany at the same time as a warm-up to keeping at bay a nuclear Soviet Union and China must fail if she takes on Afghanistan and Iraq at once. His trial balloons so far beg the Germans and French to come in and give the Iranians clean uranium have met with polite chuckles. We already know the effect that such warmed-over Carterism will have in Iraq: failure with the added wage of humiliation.
The Left has made an article of faith out of telling us to doubt ourselves. For another example, just look at Edwards’ closing statement from last Tuesday’s Vice-Presidential debates:
And I was also hopeful, because I knew that I lived in a country where I could get a college education.
Here’s the truth:I have grown up in the bright light of America.
But that light is flickering today.
That’s what people say when you when they want you to quit. They tell you to doubt yourself.
Today’s strategists on the Left are dispairing when a real leader is courageous; discouraging when a real leader is encouraging; and urge us to back down, when a real leader urges us to take heart.
Today’s strategists on the Left underestimate what we have done, what we can do, and what we will accomplish.
Their defeatism needs to be rejected by those they hope will follow them. The rank and file on the Left want what’s good for this country and many of them know our power, our good deeds, and our greatness.
