Why is it that Libs seem to go out of their way to bemoan the costs of everything, and at the same to ignore the benefits? A headline from the LA TIMES reads:
Iraqi City Lies in Ruins
Oh my gosh. What a surprise. The inhabitants were trying to kill us. We rid the world of hundreds of terrorists, and all the LA TIMES can do is bemoan the loss of so many buildings. The Times continues:
The reconstruction effort in Fallouja will require tens of millions of dollars in U.S. funds to compensate residents for damaged property and to rebuild large parts of the city damaged by weeks of U.S. airstrikes and street-by-street fighting.
Tens of millions. Imagine that! That’s like the price of one transport plane ($50 million). It’s a mere fraction of the cost of one single Raptor Fighter Jet ($258 million).
The LA TIMES could far more reasonably be cheering: “Damage to Falluja Minimal—Less than a Fraction of the Cost of a Single Fighter Jet.” But that would require them to show that they care about stopping terrorists from targeting Americans.
Update 11-24-04. Welcome, Carnival of the Vanities readers! This site is proud to have this article included in the latest Carnival of the Vanities, hosted this week by Interested-Participant.
There’s been a lot of press wondering why Ben Affleck’s movies haven’t been doing so well lately. The answer, I think, is that he’s been casting himself in comedies. Gigli, Jersey Girl, Surviving Christmas—they’re all comedies. And Ben’s not funny. That’s no knock on him—Meryl Streep did some comedies too, and she wasn’t funny either. Ben’s casting is the dramatic and action-adventure stuff he’s done so well in.
ENTERPRISING. As I noted a week or so ago, the TV series “Star Trek: Enterprise” is having a great season. The latest ep is no exception. The scripts are tight, the characters are well-drawn, the dialog is sharp—even the music has gotten cool. If you like Star Trek and haven’t seen this series for a while, don’t miss it.
Update 12-5-04: Steven Taylor at PoliBlogger agrees.
Lots of blogs have titles for each entry. Others, like Instapundit or Betsy’s Page, do not. Then there’s at least one, Polipundit, that kind of splits the difference, with a title that’s not much bigger than the text of the entry.
I’m going to try something new here, where, if a post is just a brief note, or if I just feel like it for some reason, the post won’t get a title. Please let me know how you like it. Is it confusing to have titles for some posts but not for others?
