Eason Jordan Resigns: Is This The Death of the Phony Meme?

Wow. Advantage blogosphere. Eason Jordan resigns:

CNN chief news executive Eason Jordan quit Friday amid a furor over remarks he made in Switzerland last month about journalists killed by the U.S. military in Iraq. Jordan said he was quitting to avoid CNN being “unfairly tarnished” by the controversy.

During a panel discussion at the World Economic Forum last month, Jordan said he believed that several journalists who were killed by coalition forces in Iraq had been targeted.

It was only bloggers that busted Eason Jordan on his outrageous and unfounded comments, slamming the U.S. at an international forum. Mainstream Media stayed out of it until just the last few days.

I’ll make two observations:

• We’ve reached the point where the blogosphere can raise a story to national attention, without the help of MSM.
• This may be the end of the false statement which, via endless repetition, becomes accepted by the public. Here was Jordan apparently saying that the coalition forces in Iraq hard purposely shot at and killed journalists. This is just the kind of thing the Left used to pick up and repeat endlessly until it was accepted as fact by a large part of the public. The days of the big phony meme may be over.

  Mega Web Host Comparison Chart: Combined Info From 12 Web Host Review Sites

  This morning I did some fairly intensive research into web hosts. I Googled twelve sites that rated web hosts:

  10 Cheap Web Hosting
  Best 10 Web Hosting
  Consumers Review
  Hosting Analyst
  Hosting Comparison
  Hosting Review
  Hosting Reviewed
  Smart Comparisons
  The Hosting Chart
  Top 10 Cheap Web Hosting
  Web Space Test
  Webhosting Top 10

  I then:

  • Went to each of those sites and copied their top 10 recommended hosts into an Excel spreadsheet.
  • Used Excel to average the ranks for each host across all times a given host had been mentioned.
  • Used Excel to count the number of mentions for each site.

    I also was very interested in speed. I found two sites that rated or ranked the speed of each host:

    Performance.Toast.Net
    Top 10 Cheap Web Hosting

    So I included that info in the chart as well.

    And here are the results:

    

    Notes:

  • Average Rank is on a 1-10 scale, 1 being best.
  • The Performance.Toast.Net Speed Test Rank is also a rank, with 1 being the best rank.
  • The Top10cheapwebhosting rating is on a 1-20 scale, with 20 being best.
  • If Hosting Comparison listed a host as being in the top 5 that offer Fantastico (which makes it easy to install many open-source software packages for image galleries, forums, etc.) that host got an extra mention in the Number of Top 10 Lists column.
  • If a host was in the top 10 performance.toast.net listings for speed, that host got an extra mention in the Number of Top 10 Lists column.
