I went to an RSS conference in New York last week. Many pros from all over the net, gathered to talk about RSS, and how it will change Internet businesses, and can be used by them to improve their service. Some interesting notes:
- Amazon.com currently has over 100 million product offerings.
- Doc Searl spoke and said the NY Times should sell today’s news and give away the archives, but…
- ...the NY Times said that the Wall Street Journal is selling today’s news, and is only making $50 million a year, which isn’t considered serious money.
- 2 million users a month spend hours on the NY Times web site—(or at least did before the current payment plan started.)
- About.com gets 23 million unique visitors a month.
- That About.com logo that bounces around on the page serves a purpose. They get many more people signing up for their RSS feeds when that is running. They get 2000 clicks a day from it, most of them to their RSS feeds.
- About 10% of Internet users currently use RSS feeds, up from 6% just last November.
