DEMS APPEAR TO BE BEGINNING TO LAMPOON THEMSELVES:
Conyers’s firm hand on the gavel could not prevent something of a free-for-all; at one point, a former State Department worker rose from the audience to propose criminal charges against Bush officials. Early in the [mock] hearing, somebody accidentally turned off the lights; later, a witness knocked down a flag. Matters were even worse at Democratic headquarters, where the C-SPAN feed ended after just an hour, causing the activists to groan and one to shout “Conspiracy!”
Some Dems must notice how embarrassing this is to their party.
The Jewish Journal of Greater Los Angeles covers efforts to save Gush Katif. As you may know, Gush Katif is the land in the Gaza strip on which Israelis live. (Here’s a map.) Ariel Sharon is planning to unilaterally give land from Israel to terrorists who will doubtless use it to launch attacks deeper into Israel than was previously possible. He is planning to uproot by force from their homes 9,000 Israelis who went to that land decades ago at the request of their own government. He is planning to give the homes and businesses of these people to the very terrorists who have been making war on them.
The Arguments In Favor Of The Gaza Pullout
Argument One. This one is really pathetic. “Many hope that relinquishing Gaza to Palestinian control might jumpstart the peace process and lessen tensions.” Sure, giving your homes and land to people who have been making war on you in order to get your homes and land, will go a long way to promoting peace. On the contrary, it will show the world that:
Also, it is likely to lead in effect to the creation of “Hamastan,” that is, a nation owned and operated by terrorists who make war on Israel in the confidence that Israel will not make war on them in return.
Argument Two. “Israel should leave the disputed region because of the overwhelming financial and military drain of protecting less than 9,000 Jews surrounded by more than 1 million Arabs.” However:
The Arguments Against The Gaza Pullout
Pulling out of Gaza will be a military disaster for Israel. From the Save Gush Katif website: ”“Disengagement” would advance terrorism, rather than peace. If the PA gets territory in return for terrorism, why would it, or any other Arab party, conduct terror-free negotiation with Israel?”
Gush Katif currently produces “15% of the agricultural exports of the State of Israel.” The loss of 15% of Israel’s export economy appears likely to outweigh any cost savings of leaving Gush Katif.
And, the people of Gush Katif want to stay.
