From the tape purporting to be of Bin Laden, and asking for a truce:
We are a nation that God has forbidden to lie and cheat.
See, a man hiding explosives under his clothing, and taking advantage of this deception to go into a restaurant packed with women and children and blowing himself up, to Bin Laden, is not lying and cheating.
Terrorists dressing in civilian clothes, and taking advantage of this deception to kill American soldiers, to Bin Laden, is not lying and cheating.
Capturing civilians and cutting their heads off on tapes that are then broadcast, to Bin Laden, is not lying and cheating.
Sending people to flight school in the U.S. to learn how to fly planes into skyscrapers, to Bin Laden, is not lying and cheating.
When radical Islamists ask for a truce, is exactly the right time to blow the hell out of them, because they only ask for it when they're weak and planning for future attacks. Fundamentalist Islam declares permanent and unending war against non-Muslims. No permanent peace is permitted. A truce of no more than 10 years is permitted when the fundamentalist Islamic forces are weakened, after which fundamentalist Islam demands that war be resumed. ...Islamic jurists enunciated the principle that, in general, truces were to be concluded for no longer than ten years and only entered into for the purpose of allowing weakened Muslim forces to gain strength.

According to Umdat as-Salik, a medieval summary of Shafi'i jurisprudence, hudnas with a non-Muslim enemy should be limited to 10 years: "if Muslims are weak, a truce may be made for ten years if necessary, for the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) made a truce with the Quraysh for that long, as is related by Abu Dawud" ('Umdat as-Salik, o9.16).
The only reason such a deceptive truce works is that the other side thinks the fundamentalist Islamists mean it to be permanent. On their side, they know it's only for 10 years, after which they must return to the attack. Such a truce is a deception, a lie, and shows again that nothing Bin Laden says is to be trusted.
Bin Laden's claim that "We are a nation that God has forbidden to lie and cheat" is a blatant lie, because the requirements of the Koran are the reverse. From The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam (and the Crusades), page 79:
When it comes to unbelievers -- particularly those who are at war with Muslims -- Muhammad enunciated quite a different principle: "War is deceit."
Specifically, he taught that lying was permissible in battle.
In asking for truce, Bin Laden is inadvertently showing that we are winning, and that we must not stop and give him ten years to regain strength for a future attack such as that of 9-11.
Bin Laden sounds like he's competing with Michael Moore and Cindy Sheehan for leadership of the American Left:
The voice on the tape said he was directing his message to the American people after polls showed that "an overwhelming majority of you want the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq but (Bush) opposed that desire."
The Left should be embarrassed and ashamed to hear their own arguments used by a man who has killed 3,000 Americans and threatens to kill more.
Bin Laden Offers Truce? Give me a break. He's begging us to stop killing and capturing all his guys. This is a great indication that we are clobbering Al Qaeda big time. It's working, and we should stay at it until we've gotten every last one of them.
