"We're really blessed in this country to have the Judeo-Christian tradition of wanting to love each other and help each other have better lives and to enjoy life and be good to each other. As opposed to the tradition of some Islamofascist localities where they do the reverse - sending their own children off to be blown up."

First Reaction to GWB’s Immigration Speech

It was a good speech. GWB wants to build fences in "urban corridors" and control the rest of the border with sensors and patrols. It seems to be a reasonable proposal for controlling the border.

The question is, can he deliver on it? Can he get cooperation from Congress to control the borders? And will he make this a high enough priority so that he will do what he needs to, on his side, to make sure this gets done?

How to Show GOP We Mean Business on Borders, Budget Without Turning Gov’t Over to Dems

Last Friday I posted an article titled, "Conservative Exhaustion: Peggy Noonan, John Podhoretz, and Why We Need to Get Back in the Game." In the comments section, lastango made a persuasive argument for Conservative revolt, concluding:

There’s a war on for the soul of the Republican Party. The RINO’s started it, and we’ll finish it.

    I responded:

Great comment, lastango. I hear you. The question is, how can we finish it without turning the government over to the Democrats for 4-8 years, which would have still more dire results, as argued by Podhoretz?

Commenter jim then proposed the approach that he himself uses for this purpose:

For myself, I won’t stay away, I’ll vote.
But to send a msg, I only donate to selected candidates. All the letters from GOP committees and RINOs get a response--
    1) Win the war
    2) Secure our borders
    3) Cut spending
    4) Confirm the judges
    5) Then get to me about a donation
It’s perhaps a small step but it’s one that any of us can do.

To summarize, when jim gets a fundraising request from GOP committees and elected officials, he responds that he's only donating to those who take care of the key goals he has listed. At the same time, he makes sure to go to the polls and vote.

Commenter ast posted, supporting this same approach.

This seems like a very powerful and effective way to let our elected officials know we mean business, while working to keep the Democrats from controlling government, which could be devastating at this hinge moment in history.
