Last night I went to a panel at Pepperdine University in Malibu. The panel was organized by Pepperdine and the Republican Jewish Coalition, and was on the subject of the movie, "Munich."
Those on the panel supporting the movie (which I have not seen at this time) made a number of good points. However, they made repeated references to how terrorists are family people and human beings just like us and love their families. This seemed like a difficult statement to support, since it is not uncommon for the terrorists to teach their kids to put on bombs and go and kill themselves. There really is no interpretation of the word "love" that includes that behavior.
Yes, the terrorists are human beings. It's not a matter of genetics. It's a matter of the differences between Sharia culture and our Judeo-Christian culture.
Afterwards I approached Prof. Michael Berenbaum to discuss this point. I asked, "Doesn't the description of the terrorists as family men, contain the hidden assumption, that their culture is the same as ours? We are raised in the beautiful Judeo-Christian, love-thy-neighbor culture, and the terrorists are raised in a Jihadist culture in which parents teach kids to go and blow themselves up." Prof. Berenbaum replied in part by saying that "using the word 'jihadist' is exclusive. Saying that we are all sons of Abraham is inclusive." I thanked the Professor for being there, completing a useful and polite discussion.
It appears to me that by this statement, regarding 'exclusive' and 'inclusive,' Prof. Berenbaum was expressing a wish for those of all religions to co-exist successfully. This is certainly a laudable goal.
But it appears to me that at this time, while he is willing to include the Islamofascists, they are not willing to include him. You can include the Islamofascists, and they will exclude non-Muslims. France included Islamofascists and they are eating France alive. You might as well take the position that the body should 'include' cancer.
That is a great article, Olah. Thanks for posting it. He makes the case brilliantly.
Yes, he does. He also really knows what he's talking about when it comes to these matters. He's been an senior officer in the IDF for more than 20 years. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Hey, I haven't seen the movie yet, either. I suggest you read this article. I think you would really appreciate it. Let me know what you think.
