OH, FOR GOD’S SAKE. Congress is demanding that New York return $44 million in aid to 911 victims, not because the money was spent incorrectly—everyone agrees it was spent properly—but because of a technicality in the way in which the money was distributed:
The GAO found the state was not entitled to distribute the $44 million through other agencies. The state used the other agencies because officials said it would be a quicker method of getting aid to victims.
This is pathetic, especially you think of all the hundreds of millions, and billions, of dollars that Congress blows through in the most irresponsible, wasteful manner possible. Maybe the American people should demand that Congress refund us all of our misspent tax dollars.
