It was a good speech. GWB wants to build fences in "urban corridors" and control the rest of the border with sensors and patrols. It seems to be a reasonable proposal for controlling the border.
The question is, can he deliver on it? Can he get cooperation from Congress to control the borders? And will he make this a high enough priority so that he will do what he needs to, on his side, to make sure this gets done?
I'm not sure what side of the issue you're on, Otto; it's a tactic of the Left to try to change the subject from matters of substance to accusations about character.
You're the one trying to change the subject, buddy. I was responding to the question you asked ("Can he deliver on it?").
Let me spell it out for you. No, he can't deliver, because he has no intention of delivering. He wants to give the impression that he's doing something, but he's not offering anything of substance or consequence. The guy is a fraud.
Most of us have already caught on to this. Eventually so will you.
It is a tactic of the Left to try to change the subject from that of policy to that of another person's intentions, which are of course, unknowable.
Again, you are the one trying to change the subject. Rather than respond to what I actually said, you are trying to shift to the much easier target of "the tactics of the Left."
I responded directly to the question you asked. You are clearly unable to dispute what I actually said.
He’s tossing some red meat to the xenophobic suckers who apparently make up what’s left of his dwindling base. He’s putting on a show in an election year. You don’t honestly believe he actually gives a damn about any of this, do you?
You are clearly unable to dispute what I actually said.
You don't appear to have read my comment.
Oh, I see. The best you can do is quibble over my use of the word "intention" to describe my interpretation of Bush's intentions. I thought it was pretty obvious in context that was what I meant, but I happily offer that clarification nevertheless.
Anything else you want to quibble over?
What you missed was that I disputed what you were arguing, by saying that it was "unknowable." You have no way of knowing what Bush's intentions are.
Can he deliver? Are you kidding? He's tossing some red meat to the xenophobic suckers who apparently make up what's left of his dwindling base. He's putting on a show in an election year. You don't honestly believe he actually gives a damn about any of this, do you?
