At tonight’s LA Press Club event for Hugh Hewitt, Hugh, Roger L. Simon and Mark Danziger announced the forthcoming blog network, Pajamas Media. “Pajamas Media will not be about creating content and having an editorial voice—but about finding voices that are out there and giving them an infrastructure,” said Danziger. Pajamas Media will offer one spot where advertisers can buy space on the entire blogosphere. Participation is anticipated by some of the biggest sites in the ‘sphere. All bloggers are welcome to join by emailing join@pajamasmedia.com. They’re very busy putting this together, so if you email with questions, be patient.
Other highlights of the event: Hugh discussed the possible collapse of major newspapers, comparing the LA Times in particular to the Titanic, which was “the leading form of mass transportation—right up until the moment it hit the iceberg.” Hugh generously offered Bob Sipchen of the LA Times a chance to speak in rebuttal. Bob noted that an organization of reporters is different from a weblog, and that such organizations will continue to be needed.
And Mickey Kaus extemporized a rip-roaring speech (pictured) regarding the LA Times, saying “It would be a tragedy if the newspapers went out of business. It would not be a tragedy if the LA Times went out of business.”
