"The United States has the power to cause harm and pain," said Ali Asghar Soltanieh, a senior Iranian delegate to the IAEA. "But the United States is also susceptible to harm and pain. So if that is the path that the U.S. wishes to choose, let the ball roll."
This is just like Iran's recent threat attack Israel if Israel acts to eliminate Iran's WMD facilities. As I previously posted:
So if the U.S., in all likelihood with assistance from Israel, destroys Iranian nuke facilities, Iran will attempt to attack Israel. On the other hand, if the U.S. and Israel do nothing, Iran will merely try to utterly destroy Israel and "wipe Israel off the map." Good threat!
Given its many outright threats against the free world, Iran seems to be banking on a hope that such threats will paralyze the free world long enough for Iran to acquire WMDs and use them.
Who would have believed it possible, that Iran would make such threats, while boasting of its plans to destroy freedom all over the world? From Russia's Itar-Tass news agency:
KUALA LUMPUR, March 5 (Itar-Tass) - Islam will soon be the domineering force in the world, placing first in the number of its followers among all other religions. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad expressed this confidence here at the end of his state visit to Malaysia.
Following a meeting with Sultan Jamalullail I, the supreme head of the federation of nine states where Islam was proclaimed the state religion, he pontificated: "The world will be in the hands of Islam over the next few years."
And from National Review:
"The skirmishes in the occupied land are part of a war of destiny . . . a historic war between the oppressor [Christians] and the world of Islam," Ahmadinejad has announced.
Needless to say, Ahmadinejad's statements imply an expectation that Iran will use nukes to bring about a worldwide Armageddon, such as that which Shi'ites believe is predicted by the Koran, and in which Ahmadinejad is widely thought to believe:
In a speech on November 16th, Ahmadinejad spoke of his belief in the return of the Twelfth Imam. One of the differences between Sunni and Shi'ite Islam is that the latter, who dominate Iran and form the majority in Iraq, believe that Allah shielded or hid Muhammad al-Mahdi as the Twelfth Imam until the end of time. Shi'ites expect the Twelfth Imam, which Jews and Christians would recognize as a messianic figure, to return to save the world when it had descended into chaos. Shi'ite orthodoxy has it that humans are powerless to encourage the Twelfth Imam to return. However, in Iran a group called the Hojjatieh believe that humans can stir up chaos to encourage him to return.
Iran must not be permitted to acquire WMDs.
This seems to be a bit of a troll, but let's see if you have anything in mind besides a quibble. Do you take the position that Iran should be permitted to acquire WMDs and attempt to carry out its threat to replace freedom with Sharia law worldwide?
Well, no. Fortunately, that's years away, so hopefully we'll have a sane administration that can deal with it.
But, you take a quote from Iran that basically says, "if we are attacked we will defend ourselves" and give it the headline "Iran threatens to attack U.S." Well done!
> Well, no. Fortunately, that’s years away...
Okay, so you do acknowledge the danger. But why do you say it's years away? Most people agree that Iran will have nukes in a matter of months or weeks.
Shouldn't your headline read, "Iran threatens to defend itself?"
