"We're really blessed in this country to have the Judeo-Christian tradition of wanting to love each other and help each other have better lives and to enjoy life and be good to each other. As opposed to the tradition of some Islamofascist localities where they do the reverse - sending their own children off to be blown up."

    Latest Freedom Tower Design: Acceptable

Via Project Rebirth, which chronicles the rebuilding of Ground Zero, we have these pictures of the redesigned Freedom Tower:

    image

    image

Regarding the previous design, I’ve commented: Rebuild the Twin Towers, and Do it Right (The ‘Freedom Tower’ WTC Design Must Never Be Built).

But this new design appears to me to be all right. It’s exciting, and it looks good. It’s a bit scaled back from the Twin Towers, and I’d consider that a strong criticism of this design.

It also has kind of a fortress-y feel to it, doesn’t it?

I don’t like that giant toothpick on top of it. Theoretically it gets the building to the 1776-foot desired height, but it seems like a cop-out. If they want the building to be that high, they should build it that high.

Update 9-13-06: More on the new design: Four new towers instead of two!

KEEP THE BUILDING NAMED 'THE FREEDOM TOWER'! MARKETING BE DAMNED!

What about the safety of the inhabitants?

    Wouldn't that be termed patriotic?

It's not the name, but the fact it is there, and will be a presence which stands tall as the true source of patriotic pride.

Let's not make the building the memorial, let's concentrate on the one that will be adjacent to it.

As I have just recently posted, I applaude the good sense of the Port of Authority.

To have so much death assosiated with 'World Trade Center' how idiotic to rename it the same. Where's the safety in that. Ournation was built on FREEDOM why not use the new buildings to raise the icon by which this country was built on. how un-american of you to be so close minded and capitalistic. People like you are why we are in this debacle of an economy. It is time for the 'change' our foot-in-moouth leader so emptily spoke of, while being absent-mindedly elected by our misguided yet integrated society. Maybe you could begin the movement of change by reverting to a new way of thinking. It should stay 'Freedom Tower',the icon of America, the symbol that Freedom stands over all. The People are building and paying for the buildings, why not let it be up for a vote. the Port Authority is not paying for it, only building it. The reason for my adamacy is that I know the only thing behind the name change is MONEY. My tax dollars are hard at work to rebuild maybe I should have a say!! Lets show the world we have a spine still or will the Dems take that too!!

I am a native New Yorker who lives near the Pentagon.

How many people did you personally know who lost their lives on September 11th?

I lost at least 17 friends and business associates.

How dare you question my patriotism and motives.

Patriotism? Have you served in the military? I lost 4 of my closest friends in tower 1, my condolences on your loss. In no way am I questioning your patriotism, however your motives really need some deep personal review. I only say this because this symbol of our country, the greatest country in the world, is freedom. I have lived in 3 other countries and to see the liberty and freedom that we Americans take for granted, are so longed for in those countries, is now being harvested on and beaten down by our government, which by the way is supposedto be 'For the People'. This is just another way those liberties and freedoms are slowly ebbing out of our society. Maybe the Russian professor was right, maybe the U.S.A. will disintigrate in 2011. Thankfully September 11 also holds a happy place in my heart, as my oldest was born on that day as well, exactly 12 mins after tower 2 collapsed. My protest is already in the hands of my congressman along with the signatures of 3000+( & more to come) concerned citizens. I will not let the 'left' control my kids futures, symbolisms, and ideologies. America has become a country of dissidents and betrayers, not to mention lazy and self-indulgent back-stabbers. If Abraham Lincoln and George Washington could see what we've become they would turn away in shame.

    LET FREEDOM RING

on  03/30/09  at  09:28 AM   United States  #7

I am a Marine brat (both parents WWII) and my brother is a retired career Naval officer

    Thank you for your service.

Putting into question the 'patriotism' of another against your own is a sorry thing. It's like trying to prove how much more Christian or g-dly one is.  Such things are immesurable.

I wish you all the best - but I refuse to play your game.

Enjoy life with a smile, and breath the joys that God has given you, unfortunatly I was on the debate team, and could go on for ever. I served my country faithfully for 7yrs and thankfully am proud to be retired of my military duty. I get tense in the thick of a good debate, no offenses were at all intended, and do humbly apologize for offending you. I only present what I feel in my heart on the topic and sometimes get alittle carried away, nonetheless I feel strongly that this building should be a representative of the symbol of freedom. Good day to you, Ma'am.
