From Wikipedia:
Neville Chamberlain holding the paper containing the resolution to commit to peaceful methods signed by both Hitler and himself on his return from Munich. He is showing the piece of paper to a crowd at Heston Aerodrome on 30 September 1938. He said:
"...the settlement of the Czechoslovakian problem, which has now been achieved is, in my view, only the prelude to a larger settlement in which all Europe may find peace. This morning I had another talk with the German Chancellor, Herr Hitler, and here is the paper which bears his name upon it as well as mine (waves paper to the crowd - receiving loud cheers and "Hear Hears"). Some of you, perhaps, have already heard what it contains but I would just like to read it to you ...".
Later that day he stood outside Number 10 Downing Street and again read from the document and concluded:
'"My good friends, for the second time in our history, a British Prime Minister has returned from Germany bringing peace with honour. I believe it is peace for our time."...Chamberlain's legacy is marked by his appeasement policy regarding his signing of the Munich Agreement in 1938, conceding part of Czechoslovakia to German dictator Adolf Hitler.
...Chamberlain was forced to resign the premiership on 10 May 1940, after Germany invaded the Netherlands, Belgium and France.
The American Freedom Alliance is having a week-long series of events in Los Angeles, from September 24th to September 28th: "Remembering Munich: The Legacy Of Appeasement." From the AFA press release:
American Freedom Alliance Senior Fellow Avi Davis announced today a series of events to commemorate the Munich Agreement, the infamous pact between the European democracies and the fascist governments which ignited the Second World War. This agreement, signed on September 29, 1938, ceded Czechoslovakia's Sudetenland to Nazi Germany in an attempt to appease Adolf Hitler. Germany's occupation of the rest of Czechoslovakia six months later and its threatened invasion of independent Poland, thereafter made World War II inevitable.
..."In the wake of the Cold War, the global geo-political situation today is reminiscent of the years before World War II, with such nations as Iraq and Russia offering deep challenges to Western cohesion and resolve," said Avi Davis, the Senior Fellow of the American Freedom Alliance. "The time is therefore right to recall the danger of appeasing modern dictators who deny human rights to their own citizens and threaten war against other nations. It is also time to remember that the appeasement of certain minorities in our own societies, whose ideologies and beliefs might be inimical to modern democratic life and values, are policies which need to be considered and perhaps reconsidered very carefully."
