EU Superpower Hopes May Be Ruined:
LONDON—The dramatic Dutch rejection of the European Union constitution, following France’s “no,” could shift the EU onto a much less ambitious course, diminishing the chances the U.S. will face a rival European superpower anytime soon.
This appears to be a good thing:
Which leaves the world, in my opinion, in need of another superpower. As I’ve noted before, with Russia out of commission, and with the U.N. totally failing at bringing order to the world, currently America is left as what Victor Davis Hanson has referred to as the world’s only sheriff: “Outside our shores there is a growing barbarism with no other sheriff in sight.”
It would be extremely helpful to America to have another global superpower to help keep the world in order. Prospects include:
As I’ve noted previously:
Humanity is currently groping its way towards a new world order. Some new superpower will eventually emerge.
...It’s going to take a while to get there. In the meantime, as far as a world sheriff, it looks like we’re it.
We Americans really need to appreciate how heroic we are, in our efforts as the world’s current lone superpower, to maintain order. It’s a huge responsibility. The spread of democracy in the Mid East shows that we’re working hard and accomplishing a lot.
