So, to nobody's surprise, the Palestinians entering Gaza are burning down synagogues and acting like hellspawn:
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas attempted to downplay the synagogues` destruction, claiming that Israel had not left behind any synagogues.
“There are no synagogues here,” he said. “Israel left behind some empty buildings that are likely to collapse.”
From Camera:
One can only imagine the international outcry had Israelis destroyed even one deserted Muslim mosque—the mere rumor that a Koran may have been mishandled was enough to spark widespread media condemnation...
From Paula R. Stern:
Unspoken is the silent message that while the Christian world and the Jewish world would respect places of worship, the Moslem world cannot be held to the same level of accountability.
...We cannot say that we expected better, of course, because that would be deemed racist and wrong. It would be insulting to the honorable religion of Islam, even though it is the truth. It would imply that their values are different than ours, even though they are. It would suggest that their culture is one that lacks respect for other religions, one deeply embedded in violence and one that cannot tolerate and respect the beliefs of others.
They also blew a hole in a concrete wall between Gaza and Egypt and poured through it. This is the last thing the Egyptians want:
Egyptian authorities set a new deadline for all Palestinians to return to the Gaza side after revealing that they had uncovered a tunnel stashed with weapons on the border.
And the Palestinians are stocking up on weapons:
Palestinian gunrunners smuggled hundreds of assault rifles and pistols across the Egyptian frontier into Gaza, dealers and border officials told The Associated Press on Wednesday. The influx confirmed Israeli fears about giving up border control and could further destabilize Gaza.
No, no one is surprised that the Palestinians are behaving viciously. That's expected behavior from them.
The question now is, are they going to attack Israel from Gaza? It appears likely. If they do, I hope Israel will realize the correct response is to recognize that it's in a war, and to respond in kind.
I really hope you're right.
I was under the impression that Muslims are not allowed to destroy a house of worship. If Islam can cause a person to blow him self up don't you think they can respect there own religion and not destroy a house of worship??
Extremist Muslims blow themselves up. They do not suscribe to true Muslim beliefs therefore destroying houses of worship is not hard to believe. They do not have respect for the true religion.
Yes, some empty buildings that formerly synagogues were destroyed by palestinians. How many mosques no longer in use after 1948 war after palestinians were driven out (or left) were destroyed and replaced with housings, other buildings, synagogues etc? Thousands of them. What were palestinian supposed to do with these empty buildings formerly synagogues but no longer in use after settler jews left gaza? Israel destroyed all the settler houses in gaza -- why did they leave these buildings? They knew what would happen. This was publicity stunt by israel to score PR points. If they could destroy all the houses, they could have destroyed these buildings too when they were leaving, but they chose to leave them, and let palestinian do it, and score PR points.
Let's put it this way on the Israel side:
They do.
They will.
