What does the average person make of a headline like this, from the Arizona Daily Star?
Murtha says U.S. poses top threat to world peace
MIAMI - American presence in Iraq is more dangerous to world peace than nuclear threats from North Korea or Iran, Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., said to an audience of more than 200 in North Miami Saturday afternoon.
Perhaps at some time in the past, similar statements could be excused for being a bit over the top, as a way to get attention. But it's gotten to the point now when statements like this are just ludicrous. Surely many people read reports like this and think, A, The Dems are making no sense, and B, the Dems are no friends to America.
Where does free speech end, and treason begin?
It's a great question, and I think we're about to have a national debate on that.
A South Florida Sun-Sentinel article on Sunday misinterpreted a comment from U.S. Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., at a town-hall meeting in North Miami.
In his speech, Murtha cited a recent poll, by the Pew Global Attitudes Project, that indicates a greater percentage of people in 10 of 14 foreign countries consider the U.S. presence in Iraq a greater danger to world peace than any threats posed by Iran or North Korea.
Murtha said U.S. credibility was suffering because of continued U.S. military presence in Iraq and the perception that the United States is an occupying force.
There are several ways to spin the same web.
While the correction indicates that he was citing a poll, his choice of poll would indicate that he was using it to support his own agenda.
Were there any other polls presented by him during that speech that would have reflected an opposing or different view?
If not, I am not moved by this 'correction'.
We don't need to fear Al-Jazeera, we have our own people to fear!
Some of our legislators, government officials, military personnel, press, and citizens have been enabling the negative propaganda machines throughout the world.
The descriptive word for these people: traitors.
Our national security and mission is being undermined by these miscreants.
Where does free speech end, and treason begin?
