The biased, unearned support of MSM for the Democrat party, has permitted candidates to gain prominence, without having the aptitude it takes to do so on level playing field. The result is an exceptionally weak array of Democrat candidates for the 2008 Presidential election.
I would suggest that the results of the Iowa primary show, not so much an embracing of Obama - as a rejection of Hillary. The voters of that state, taking their responsibility very seriously as the holders of the nation's first primary, carefully inspected Hillary, and have rejected her as insincere, divisive, and - despite her claims - inexperienced.
This puts the Dems in very a precarious position. Edwards - foolish enough to call, in desperation, for a total pullout from Iraq, at a time when everyone can see that the Iraq war is moving towards a successful conclusion - is in danger of becoming irrelevant. And Obama is inexperienced, prone to gaffs, has a Muslim background, and goes to a church that some consider to be racially divisive.
The unearned - and therefore essentially false - support by MSM, for Democrat candidates - has undermined the very party it sought to support - and in that way has become a damaging liability for that party.
I think you've pretty well nailed it.
I grew up in the Democratic party and I don't recognize the current crowd as democrats. Harry Truman, Adlai Stevenson and John F. Kennedy would sneer at them and vote Republican. file:///C:/DOCUME~1/User/LOCALS~1/Temp/moz-screenshot.jpg
