A huge crowd in Pakistan protests the cartoons by destroying ... their own stuff:
LAHORE, Pakistan (AP) -- Thousands rampaged through two cities Tuesday in Pakistan's worst violence against Prophet Mohammed caricatures, burning buildings housing a hotel, banks and a KFC, vandalizing a Citibank and breaking windows at a Holiday Inn and a Pizza Hut.
At least two people were killed in Lahore, where intelligence officials suspected outlawed Islamic militant groups incited the violence to undermine President Gen. Pervez Musharraf's U.S.-allied government.
An Associated Press reporter in Lahore saw crowd members who appeared to be orchestrating the attacks, directing protesters -- some of whom were carrying containers of kerosene -- toward particular targets. The demonstrators also set the provincial government assembly building on fire.
Note the size of the crowd protesting the cartoons: 70,000 people. This doesn't seem to be some strange fringe group -- the crowd's too big. We in the West have to wake up to the fact that Sharia culture is just very different than ours. We have the beautiful Judeo-Christian love-thy-neighbor culture, which improves all of our lives so much, and which we think is just part of life on earth. It isn't. Many Islamists live under Sharia culture, in which it's not uncommon for children to be taught to blow themselves up. There is no love in families where family members teach the children to die.
Daniel Pipes discusses how the withdrawing of Islamic nations from interaction with the free world has "dreadful implications" -- not for the free world, but for the Islamic nations, in his article, "How the Cartoon Protests Harm Muslims."
This raises a good question: what is it -- if anything -- that Sharia culture encourages people to love? Evidently not their own children, who are frequently encouraged to kill themselves. So love of family doesn't appear to be part of it. And if you don't have that, how can you have anything? Indeed, Islamic nations contribute very little to the world in art or science.
We are very lucky to live in the West.
